VERMONT GREEN LINE HOST COMMUNITY BOOSTS SUPPORT FOR THE PROJECT
New Haven, VT Residents Approve Renewable Energy Transmission Project
Wakefield and Waltham, Mass. — The town of New Haven, VT has expressed overwhelming support for the Vermont Green Line renewable energy transmission project.
Residents of New Haven responded to a week-long, town-wide survey almost two-to-one (252-128) in favor of hosting a converter station for the Vermont Green Line in the town, and in support of an agreement the selectboard made with project developers Anbaric Transmission and National Grid. The converter station is one of two facilities for the submerged and buried transmission cable project, which would bring 400 megawatts of onshore wind and hydropower resources from upstate New York and to the New England grid.
“The New Haven survey result is a win-win for the region. Vermont Green Line’s combination of wind and hydro power, a minimally intrusive project design and a collaborative approach with host communities will add clean energy to the region and provide benefits to communities where the project is located,” said Ed Krapels, CEO of Anbaric.

Anbaric and National Grid have been working with the town since August 2015 to build a framework for a partnership that would result in the underground transmission line and converter station being built in New Haven.
The agreement will deliver significant benefits to New Haven in the form of direct payments, commitments related to sound limits and provisions for abutters to the converter station.
The proposed Vermont Green Line is a 60-mile underground and underwater high-voltage direct current transmission project that will interconnect with the existing power grid at a new converter station in Beekmantown, New York. The cable would travel under Lake Champlain, and connect to another new converter station in New Haven, Vermont. All land cables will be underground.
